Fun, Fast, Affordable Training!

Sign upAt All About Dogs, you get more than twice as much training as you’ll get other places.

Many trainers offer 6-week classes for around $200. These rigid schedules can be hard for busy families to accommodate. Missing a lesson or two can make your dog fall behind and affect the quality of your training.

All About Dogs has solved that problem with our flexible levels program. With a levels membership, you can come to our drop-in classes as often as you like for as long as you’d like. Get as much or as little training as you want or need based on your own expectations for your dog.

Some of our students come as often as three times a week! Check our schedule to see when each level is offered. Move through all four levels or choose to stay at a lower level. The choice is yours!

LEVEL 1: STARTING OUT. Level 1 will introduce the basic commands sit, down, stationary attention, and the name game. We'll also work on problem behaviors such as jumping, play-biting and housetraining. All dogs (even those with prior training) start in level 1.
Requirements to move to Level 2: Dog can sit and down on command. Dog will respond readily to his name with mild distractions.

LEVEL 2: MANNERS TRAINING. We'll work on walking politely on a loose leash without pulling, paying attention to the owner while walking and ignoring other dogs. We'll also begin working on come and stay. Level 2 includes problem-solving information for behaviors such as barking, digging, chewing, etc.
Requirements to move to Level 3: Dog can walk nicely around the training area with attention on owner (and no pulling) with other dogs 4-5 feet away. Dog will come when called on leash with mild distractions.

LEVEL 3: ADDING DISTRACTIONS. We'll work on a long-distance come command, stay with distractions, loose-leash walking past distractions, and distance commands.
Requirements to move to Level 4: Dog will stay for 30 seconds with mild distractions and owner standing on the leash. Dog will heel past other dogs with leash over owner's shoulder. Dog will come from 20 feet away with moderate distractions.

LEVEL 4: ADVANCED TRAINING. We'll work on polishing the come command and teaching an emergency come, strengthen the stay command by teaching the dog to stay for longer periods of time at a greater distance from the owner, work on turns and automatic sit in heeling and teach a finish command.
Level 4 goals: Dog can heel off-leash past other dogs and distractions. Dog will stay 10 feet away from owner for 3 minutes with distractions. Dog will come off-leash past distractions from 30 feet away.

What are the benefits of Levels Training over traditional classes?

  1. You can get two (or even three) times as much training in the same time period since our classes are offered more than once a week.
  2. Orientation classes start approximately every two weeks so there is little wait to enroll your dog in a class.
  3. All the dogs in each level are at a similar stage in training. This allows instructors to better address the needs of each dog.
  4. You can work at your own skill level for as long as necessary. You’ll never fall behind since there is no requirement to move up.
  5. Students can revisit a lower level at any time to brush up on previous skills. You are encouraged to attend any class at or below your dog's level. The higher you move up, the greater flexibility you'll have.
  6. Dogs move in and out of each level throughout the training, which provides new dogs as distractions each week—and learning to focus on you in a distracting environment is a wonderful canine skill!
  7. Students can take time off if they have a very busy week or go out of town. Just return to class at the same level without fear of falling behind.
  8. Level 4 will continue to work on your dog's skills in a wide variety of areas such as off-leash training, public manners training, and distance commands around distractions.

How do I get started in Levels Training?

pawprint

Choose a membership and sign up for an orientation (offered once or twice a month). The orientation is without dogs and lasts approximately 90 minutes.

At orientation, you’ll learn everything you need to know to get started training your dog. We’ll give you an overview of the Levels Program as well as teach you a little about how dogs learn. We’ll tell you where to be, what to bring, and how to make your dog the most motivated one in the room!

Puppies can begin at any age as long as they are healthy and up-to-date on vaccinations.

After you attend the orientation, your dog will probably begin in Level 1. If your dog needs one of our special programs (Calming Cautious Canines or Relaxing Rowdy Rovers), the orientation instructor will help you choose the best class.

I'm not sure my dog can handle a group class. Are there any special options?

No problem…we’ll help you in our Relaxing Rowdy Rovers and Calming Cautious Canines classes. Or we can do private lessons.

Relaxing Rowdy Rovers. Got a bouncy, barky, revved-up dog? Is it hard for your dog to settle in new environments? Does your dog lunge at passing dogs, bark when stressed, or pull constantly when you are around other dogs? Then this class is for you! Learn handling skills and desensitization procedures to make your dog more manageable around other dogs. Training will focus on understanding anxious behavior, learning how to control the environment to desensitize your pet, and modifying your dog's behavior using counterconditioning and positive reinforcement methods.

All About Dogs has been proud to offer Relaxing Rowdy Rovers for over 10 years! We specialize in helping anxious dogs reach their goals.

NOTE: Unlimited attendance in our Relaxing Rowdy Rovers class is included in our Levels Program. You'll sign up for a regular orientation and then join our special Relaxing Rowdy Rovers classes.
Our goal with most of our Rowdy Rovers is to provide you and your dog with the tools you'll need to eventually join a Level 1 training class.

Calming Cautious Canines. It's not easy having a shy dog. It's hard watching your dog when you know she is scared: worrying about new environments, trembling when friendly people approach, flinching at loud noises, or hiding behind you rather than running around checking things out. Having a shy dog can also be frustrating because the qualities you know and love so much about your dog sometimes seem to disappear when you take your dog outside. You want everyone to see the wonderful qualities about your dog, but all they see is nervous energy. This class will teach you the skills you need to help your dog develop confidence and to feel secure in new situations.

NOTE: Unlimited attendance in our Calming Cautious Canines class is included in our Levels Programs.

For this class, you'll register for one of our regular training memberships and attend a Levels Orientation. Then, you'll start attending Level 1 classes where we will provide you and your dog with some extra skills geared especially towards confidence building and relaxation. Our Cautious Canines often spend a little longer in Level 1 just to get acclimated to the class environment and learn some basic coping skills. Our goal is to then help you proceed through the rest of the program as your dog begins to relax more.

How old does my puppy have to be to come to class?

We love puppies and encourage them to get started training right away. We agree with the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior's position paper on the importance of early socialization.

We like puppies to be 8 weeks old and up to date on their age-appropriate vaccinations before joining our training classes. We welcome puppies in the levels program, but also offer a special three-week puppy socialization class for puppies under 16 weeks old.

Puppy Headstart Program

Socialization plus training equals successOur Puppy Headstart program combines both socialization classes and obedience training for your puppy. It is designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start.

This program is offered for puppies that start training before 16 weeks of age. The Puppy Headstart program includes all three puppy socialization classes plus 2 months of unlimited training in our levels program (basic obedience classes).

signup buttonAt the completion of this program, your puppy class instructor will also administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test. All mixed-breed and purebred puppies are welcome to participate.

Cost: $300 for all three puppy socialization classes plus two months of unlimited training in our basic obedience program.

Puppy Socialization Class

Perfect for puppies under 16 weeks of age! These classes will help get your puppy started off on the right paw. In each session we'll discuss how to help socialize your pet, how to prevent common household problems such as jumping, barking, and playbiting, and talk about housetraining your new puppy. PLUS...there will be plenty of time for puppy play and a special evening theme as well.

Join us for one, two or all three classes:

  • Session 1: Meeting people and other dogs
  • Session 2: Puppy handling
  • Session 3: Sights, sounds, and smells for puppies
