Look for a shelter or breed placement (rescue) group that conducts behavioral assessments on their dogs prior to adopting. They should have an invested interest in placing only the best, most social dogs available who will fit into the average home. The fact that a dog can live in a foster home is no guarantee that the dog will adjust well in your home. Ask about the return rate on dogs from your potential adoption group.
