  • Does your dog often feel shy, nervous, or worried?
  • Is your dog uncomfortable meeting new people?
  • Is walking past other dogs a challenge for your dog?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you may be a good fit for our introduction to behavior modification classes.

This class is for dogs that aren’t quite ready for typical group classes.  It is designed to give you the tools you need to understand why your dog behaves this way, how you can help, and things you can do to keep it from getting worse.

This is an introductory behavior modification class comprised of 4 lessons during 4 consecutive weeks (except holidays). This allows us to create momentum and consistency which is crucial for dogs in this class.  It’s far more economical than private lessons in your home and will give you opportunities to practice in a safe environment.

Classes are very small with limited space available.  Missed classes may not be rescheduled.

Q: How do I get started?

A: Email us to make sure your dog is a good fit for this class before registering.   Once we agree the class is right for you, we will offer you a start date.   Classes are on Monday evenings - except holidays or closings.   We will assign you the next open spot in the class and then send you an email listing your class dates.  Be sure to mark your calendar since we are not able to provide make up classes for missed classes in your series for any reason.

Q: What happens in class?

A:  Changing behavior can be complex. There’s a lot to think about.  During the first class, we'll talk about your dog’s concerns and work with you to design your training and management plan.  You will learn the necessary skills needed to work with your dog, and opportunities to practice.  Your dog will have to time to get used to his “personal space” and you’ll have plenty of time to work independently with your dog during class as well as one-on-one with a trainer.

As your dog makes progress, our trainer will customize the lessons to meet your dog’s current skill level and give you updated homework to keep practicing on your own.

Q: What’s next for my dog?

A: Until we meet your dog, we have no way of knowing. After the 4-part class, we’ll have a much better idea of what level of training and management your dog will require.

Q:  What if my dog is too reactive towards dogs or people during this class?

A:  If it turns out that your dog has difficulty calming down,  it's possible the trainer may let you know that this class is not a good fit for your dog.  If this occurs, we will apply a credit towards our private coaching in our office.

The Springfield classes are held at Dogtopia, 7401 Fullerton Road. (map). Each class is 50 minutes.
